HFHA and Bexley Councillors are celebrating the news that contracts have been exchanged for an exciting new development on the site of Crayford Town Hall, with an estimated value in excess of £30 million. "This is a day we have looked forward to for a very long time," said a delighted Cllr John Waters, Bexley's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing. "There is still a lot of work to do but I am confident that we are close to putting in place a scheme that will bring new homes, new shops, new community facilities and added vitality to the centre of Crayford."
While an agreement is in place, the final scheme is subject to planning approval. The Council and HFHA are proposing extensive consultation with local Ward Councillors, the Crayford Community and Business Forum and local residents. The creation will be a mix of new uses around an attractive town square, which will be designed with landscaping and other features to create an attractive focal point and meeting place for the local community.
It is proposed that the existing library building will be demolished. It would be replaced by a new library and community facility in a different position, with a roof terrace offering views onto the new town square, there will be extensive basement car parking with residential apartments over head.
New retail units are another key element of the proposed scheme, along with a new clinic and GP's surgery for the Bexley Care Trust. |
